Compounding Joy

Are you a cheerful giver? As we approach Christmas, it is important to evaluate our hearts. It is too easy to become wrapped up in the chaos of the season - Christmas shopping, family dinners, office parties, Church and school programs, etc. - and forget the true meaning of Christmas - the birth of Jesus Christ.

The ultimate gift was given to us so that we could have eternal life... This Christmas season, instead of being so fixated on what we are going to get, we should focus on what we could give!

As I sat in church this morning and listened to my pastor preach on sowing and reaping, I was really convicted.. I am not the cheerful giver I should be. I think we all need to evaluate our hearts and be honest with ourselves - "Am I a cheerful giver?"

I want to share with you some principles of sowing and reaping, as well as some giving truths:
  1. You reap what you sow.  "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." Galations 6:7
  2. You reap more than you sow.  "And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life." Matthew 19:29
  3. Your heart matters when you give. "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
  4. You cannon out-give God. "And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: 'He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.' Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness." 2 Corinthians 9:8-10
  5. People will thank God because of what you give. "You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God." 2 Corinthians 9:11
